Danny Harper’s Tuesday night jam session goes into its 11th year as the longest running jam session in Atlanta. Celebrations will go on throughout the months of June and July. In honor of his 11th year, Danny Harper will be playing songs from the 11 most popular artists in jazz history. Churchill Grounds’ relaxing and comfortable atmosphere lends itself to a diversity of people. Arguably the city’s most well-known jam session, it attracts tourists, locals and celebrities alike.
Celebrations begin on June 29th and continue on July 6th, July 13th and July 20th. Danny will be performing songs by Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, Art Blakey, Thelonius Monk, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, and Charlie Parker. Three legends will be featured each Tuesday for the first three weeks and two legends will be featured on the final week. Danny’s goal is to play and revive songs that even though they are by popular artists, aren’t played as often. “I hope people will enjoy sounds they don’t get to hear enough,” he explained. BestofAtlantaConcerts.com will be giving away CDs, t-shirts and tickets among other prizes to celebrate.
